Thesis Statement
The Peloponnesian War was not just a clash between Athens and Sparta, but a struggle between two competing visions of power—democracy and militarism—that ultimately weakened all of Greece and marked the decline of its Golden Age. This conflict reveals clear patterns of rebellion, reaction, and reform as city-states challenged Athenian control, Sparta responded with force, and both societies were pushed to reshape their strategies and institutions.
